Greenvale AP Ltd wins the Award for its design of the 'Restrain Generator' which produces low levels of ethylene gas to prevent potatoes and onions from growing in store. The innovative equipment comprises three parts: a generator for converting liquid fuel into ethylene gas and water vapour, a sensor capable of measuring a few parts per million of ethylene gas and a control system. The prime considerations in its design were ease of use and robustness. The equipment can operate for many months without maintenance. The benefits to growers include residue-free produce, good stock management and extensive storage of crops.
